Luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer has announced that it is launching online cryptocurrency payments for customers in the United States. The Swiss company offers the new payment option through a partnership with crypto payment processor Bitpay.
Tag Heuer partners with BitPay to offer bitcoin payments to US customers
TAG Heuer, designer and manufacturer of luxury timepieces, is now embracing crypto for its high quality products. Technique d’avant garde (TAG), founded a century and a half ago in Switzerland by Edouard Heuer, said this week that US customers will be able to buy its watches and accessories online with many coins. The company explained the move in a press release:
With a growing number of customers regularly earning or using digital currencies, TAG Heuer intends to become a major player in the imminent transformation of the e-commerce and retail space.
The alternative payment method is facilitated by the crypto payment platform Bitpay. Buyers can spend a dozen cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin (BTC), bitcoin cash (BCH), ethereum (ETH), and Dogecoin (DOGE), as well as five stablecoins. They will be able to pay up to $10,000 per transaction with no minimum spend requirement.
“We have been following cryptocurrency developments very closely since bitcoin first started trading,” said TAG CEO Frederic Arnault. “As an avant-garde watchmaker with an innovative spirit, we knew TAG Heuer would promise to be a globally integrated technology in the near future despite the ups and downs,” said the executive.
Atlanta, Georgia-based BitPay provides a payment gateway service to companies allowing businesses to integrate cryptocurrency payments on their platform. Stephen Payer, Co-Founder and CEO of Bitpay, said, “We seek the support of global brands such as TAG Heuer by investing in the crypto space and optimizing their digital platform for the rapid transformation of e-commerce. Excited to see it happen.”
A pop-up window now welcomes visitors to Tag Heuer’s US website, informing them that the company already accepts cryptocurrencies. To spend their digital coins, they need to click on ‘Bitpay’ during checkout and select their preferred crypto.
