Sunshine Tour – a professional golf tournament held in Southern and East Africa – partnered with Luno to bring cryptocurrency closer to participants. In addition to rewards in fiat currency, top golfers will receive prizes in bitcoin.
BTC reaching the golf course
The primary cryptocurrency continues to make its way through the games industry. The latest such example comes from the prestigious golf championship – the Sunshine Tour. Tournaments based in several African countries, such as Botswana, Kenya, Mauritius, Tanzania and South Africa, will give golfers approximately $31,000 worth of bitcoin who finish first.
The second-place finisher will receive around $12,000 in BTC, while the third one will receive $6,000 worth of assets.
The partner of Sunshine Tour is cryptocurrency exchange Luno. Winners will have their bitcoin rewards transferred to their Luno accounts. Marius Ritz, general manager of the exchange, said that his company aims to empower people to access a “new financial system adapted to the digital age.”
He adds that the crypto opportunity can be beneficial to professional golfers, who have “a very different way of thinking about risk and reward both on and off the golf course:”
“His career is constantly evolving, and this aligns perfectly with our vision of putting the power of crypto in everyone’s hands, safe and easy to buy, store and learn about crypto.”
bitcoin rewards in other games
Major digital assets have been used as financial incentives in many games over the years. In 2021, Indian-based crypto trading venue BitBans promised to award $2,700 worth of digital assets from the Tokyo Games to each local Olympic champion. Silver medalists were to receive $1,250 in crypto, while bronze medalists – $675. The cryptocurrencies in question were bitcoin and ether.
Another sport where BTC is highly popular is the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Last month, the organization partnered with Cryptocom to introduce a new “Fan Bonus of the Night” which will be awarded to athletes in the digital asset.
Pay ranges from $30,000 for first place, $20,000 for second, and $10,000 for third place. Fans can vote on the UFC’s pay-per-view channel and decide which athlete should be placed on top.
Dana White – Championship President – described Cryptocom as “the best partner” the entity has:
“They are constantly coming up with new ideas for how we can work together to connect with fans. This new Fan Bonus of the Night, rewarding fighters for poor performances, keeps fans more engaged with our events What a wonderful way to.”
