Madonna joins a growing list of celebrities who have acquired a piece from the most prominent NFT collection
The undisputed queen of pop, Madonna, has taken to Instagram to announce that she has entered the metaverse by purchasing non-fungible tokens, a bored app.
The NXT acquired by the megastar features a rugged-looking monkey wearing a BDSM-inspired black leather hat. Shopping is on-brand for the 63-year-old pop star, known for her provocative songs and performances.
In his post, he expressed his gratitude to cryptocurrency concierge service Moonpay, which buys the boredom app NFTs at a premium and later offers them to wealthy celebrity clients.
The pop star’s fans weren’t impressed by Madonna’s entry into the NFT. “Please remove this,” wrote one user. Another fan urged the pop star not to destroy his unmatched musical legacy by promoting questionable crypto projects. Most of the comments echo the growing anti-NFT sentiment. “Madonna. I’ve always looked up to you, but it’s so frustrating,” complained another user.
Joining musicians like Justin Bieber and Eminem, Madonna is by far the most high-profile celebrity to jump on the NXT trend. Even though she has seen little commercial success over the past decade, she remains the most successful female artist of all time, with over 300 million units sold worldwide. After making it rich in the mid-’80s with her diamond-certified album “Like a Virgin,” she managed to top the pop music scene for decades. Despite declining popularity in the US, Madonna managed to top charts across Europe in the mid-2000s with her electro-pop disco album “Confessions on a Dance Floor”.In 2018, the pop star partnered with blockchain company Ripple to raise funds for orphans in Miami.
