The Israeli authorities are continuing their efforts to crack down on individuals and companies linked to the financing of terrorism. In the latest example, they seized digital assets worth just over $800,000 from such a firm.
- According to a recent local report, Defense Minister Benny Grantz has signed the seizure order.
- The coverage indicated that the total amount in undisclosed crypto assets was NIS 2.6 million (approximately $840,000 value).
- The money was allegedly linked to the Al-Mathadon exchange, which belongs to the Malach family. Some resources claim it has deep ties with Hamas in Gaza.
- This is the second similar seizure of cryptocurrency in the past few months after Gantz seized 150 digital wallets belonging to al-Mathadon.
- Sources reportedly said that the company had scaled up its operations after the assassination of Hameed Ahmed Khundri (also accused of financing terrorism), and the aforementioned funds were on their way to Hamas.
-
“We will continue to chase terrorist funds. Hamas and the terrorist organization’s ability to circumvent traditional avenues of money transfer via digital currency is an important tool in a developing security system. ” – commented Gantz.
- Earlier, Israel’s Authority to Combat Terrorism Financing and Money Laundering said it plans to introduce new rules on certain digital financial products, including cryptocurrencies. It aims to reduce the use of crypto in criminal activities and terrorist funding.
