With “Web 3.0” suddenly being upgraded from an obscure area of research to a hot topic of mainstream conversation and a significant part of the 2020s, more and more questions arise about the nature of the beast. Will “Web3” remain a vague and undefined term, or is there a precise definition?
Aside from meanings that became obsolete years ago, such as ‘semantic web’, which is causing confusion, they are all projects that describe themselves as “decentralized” applications (DApps) or “Web 3” , which gives the impression that Web 3 is already here and alive.
Yet, as we know, such projects still rely heavily on Web2 components: using centralized domains that can be accessed or compromised at any moment, centralized storage that is censorable and capable of mass surveillance. and browser extensions like Metamask or Phantom that Google can disable at any time, which will immediately leave 99% of users of “decentralized” applications helplessly confused as to how to access them. BadgerDAO, a DeFi project hacked for $120M due to centralized UI, shows why this “Web 2.5” approach is headed in the wrong direction.
The world’s first full web3 architecture
To fix this, Point Labs began working on recreating all the components of the old Internet with their decentralized implementation. Instead of clinging to the existing Web 2 scaffolding, the resulting network, named the Point Network, is a virtual space completely disconnected from the old Internet, as are the blockchains, which can now be called Web 3.0.
The Points network architecture consists of decentralized domains (.points) that reside on the blockchain, decentralized storage on ArWave, decentralized identities, and other tools that help bridge the gap between Web 2.5 and the full Web 3.
When you open Point Browser, there is no connection to the old Internet from facebook.com, google.com, or any IP address (if you try to open a web2 link, you will be redirected to your normal browser). will be given). Instead, Point Network forces developers to deploy their dApps using only decentralized components, ensuring censorship-resistance, data integrity, data availability, confidentiality, and enhanced security.
“The Roadmap for Web3”
This combination, the founders say, is the most straightforward definition of Web 3.0: a fully decentralized Internet without Big Tech middlemen, free of censorship, mass surveillance, and the use of technology to empower direct ownership of data and audiences. An old dream of enthusiasts. Claiming control like his own deduction and dictatorship. But how far are we from achieving it?
Point Labs produced its first prototype a year ago, bootstrapping its development with its own funds. Then, in October 2021, he presented the first alpha version at the Solana Ignition Hackathon, which placed him on an honorary mention list and led to raising his seed and A rounds by venture capital firms, with notable names such as Arwave, Petroc Capital and Solar included. Echo Fund, and led by China Global + FTX Fund, which funded the second alpha version, is now more functional and easier to use.
This week, Point Labs presented its roadmap. And it’s not just a typical ribbon-shaped block on the landing page. Instead, they turned it into a complete Trello-like website, hosted by roadmap.pointnetwork.io, which is called the “Roadmap of Web3” and is updated frequently. It has two zones: the core zone, the infrastructure required for a decentralized Internet to be presented and almost complete, and the dApp zone, listing use cases and potential decentralized applications when the core area is ready and operational.

Because it is difficult for a company to develop all the dozens of dApps needed for the full Web 3.0 experience, current plans to provide grants are for one final private VC round to be dubbed ‘The Megaaround’ before a public launch in late May. . To encourage interested teams and founders to build Web3 apps on the Point Network. After that, the mainnet beta is planned to be launched by June 1.
As interest in Web3 grows, there are bound to be some projects that have the honor of becoming the gold standard. Is Point Networks on its way to become one of them? Looks like we’re just months away from finding out.
