Grichka Bogdanoff, who according to a popular crypto meme – like his brother Igor – was able to change the market with a phone call, has died at the age of 72 after a period of illness.
The twin celebrities and scientists first rose to fame as co-hosts of the television show “Temps X”, which blends science and science fiction elements and ran from 1979 to 1987. The twins remained in the public consciousness because of their distinctive appearance and frequent occurrence. Appearing in celebrity television shows such as ‘The Masked Singer’.
For crypto proponents, however, Bogdanoffs is considered something close to a godly force capable of supernatural abilities and capable of transforming financial markets with a single phone call. It’s ‘he bought it? Dump It’ crypto meme that shows Igor Bogdanoff holding a mobile phone to his ear.
Over time, the outward nature of the twins’ powers has grown, reaching new heights of mythical impossibility with each iteration of the story.
Some of the characteristics of the brothers are said to include:
- making a bow of Rothschild in front of them
- Talking to Aliens on Earth and Beyond
- psychic powers
- 9,000. IQ of more than
- Controlling special nanobots called Bogdabots (that are inside your body right now)
- owns every genetic research facility in the world
- Knowing when you buy bitcoins so they can dump the market
real Bogdanoffs
While the legend of Grichka will be remembered by the cryptosphere, the actual Grichka and Bogdanoff story is no less fascinating. Born on August 29, 1949, in Saint-Larry, France, the Bogdanoff brothers were descended from several noble lineages, including the Kolovrat family of Bohemia in the Czech Republic. Grichka was the younger of the two brothers, born 40 minutes after Igor.
Both were raised by their maternal grandmother Countess Bertha Kolovrat-Krakowska at their palace in southern France. In 1925 Countess Kolovrat-Krakowska’s affair with Roland Hess, an African-American songwriter, resulted in the divorce of her aristocratic husband, the loss of several estates and titles, and access to their four grown children.
The affair also gave birth to a single daughter, Maria Dolores “Maya” Kolovrat – mother of twins. Maya Kolovrat later married Yuri Mikhailovich Bogdanoff, a Russian political immigrant who descended from a noble lineage. In the 17th century, Bogdanoff styled himself with the high rank of ‘prince’ by decree of the Russian Tsar Fedor III.
While personal scandals and Europe’s tumultuous 20th-century history left the Bogdanoffs very poor and little, they remained a family of considerable wealth if they could not stand.
The brothers’ early years provided ample opportunity to study the many books in their grandmother’s palace library, and through the many staff and workers who passed through its doors, the twins learned German, French, Russian, and English.
Fame and the Bogdanoff affair
The brothers rose to fame with their TV show ‘Temps X’ in 1979. The show combined science and science fiction elements and introduced the French public to major US and UK shows that had previously been unknown to them. Some of the shows featured in ‘Temps X’ included cultural touchstones such as The Twilight Zone, The Prisoner, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica and Doctor Who.
The twins went further out in the limelight after the conclusion of Temps X in 1987. In 1999 Grichka Bogdanoff received her PhD from the University of Burgundy. In 2002 Igor received his own PhD, also from the University of Burgundy. Both passed with an ‘Honorable’ grade – the lowest award possible.
Between 2001 and 2002 the brothers published several papers in scientific journals, which were reviewed and approved by peer review. In October 2002, however, the validity of these papers was questioned by physicist Max Niedermayer, who said, “Summaries are pleasantly meaningless combinations of buzzwords … which have apparently been taken seriously.”
Niedermeier later retracted his initial statement, but the controversy grew arms and legs as further investigation of the twins’ papers brought a new wave of accusations and criticism. The alleged failure of the peer review process became known as ‘the Bogdanoff affair’ and left a cloud over the pair’s work.
Legend of the Bogdanoffs
In later years, the Bogdanoffs’ appearance became the focus of much media speculation. When the Bogdanoffs attended the Cannes Film Festival in 2010, the press attributed her growing cheekbones and elongated chin to cosmetic surgery. Igor and Grichka strongly refused to undergo any surgical procedures.
On 15 December 2021, Igor and Grichka Bogdanoff were hospitalized in Paris, suffering complications due to COVID-19. Grichka Bogdanoff died on 28 December. For all the tall tales of supernatural powers, it appears that Grichka Bogdanoff was just as human as the rest of us.
The death of the younger Bogdanoff brother marks the death of a man who is as multidimensional as the multiverse. Born into a family embroiled in political and personal disputes, Grichka nevertheless achieved great success, only to be later embroiled in controversies of his own creation.
Perhaps there’s some final irony in the fact that when the internet remembers Grichka with the inevitable “Goodnight Sweet Prince” epitaph, it will give her the title her family once held, and lost long ago.
In the crazy and unreliable world of crypto culture, hidden among the many grains of a mountain of salt, you may find a tiny grain of truth.
Grichka Bogdanoff, 1949-2021.
