Yug Labs is the latest victim of Project Discord hacks after hackers gained access to boring apps and otherside servers.
The hackers appeared to have accessed the servers by taking advantage of the account of the community manager, Boris Wagner. Once they reached, they conducted a phishing attack stealing 145 ETH.
Onchain analyst OKHotshot first broke the news on Twitter, saying that “proper permissions can prevent this.” Blockchain security firm PeckShield soon confirmed the hack.
Hackers used cheap methods to entice people to click on phishing links. The post claims that it is a special gift for BAYC, MAYC and other holders. Those who clicked on the link immediately had their wallets compromised.
According to Peckshield, they stole 32 NFTs, including 1 Bored Ape, 2 Mutant Apes, 5 other Deeds, and 1 Bored Kennel. Yuga Labs and Bored Apps have yet to release any official statement regarding the hack.
not the first time
This isn’t the first time that a boring APUS Discord server has been hacked, although it appears there is a more recent one. In less than 2 months, hackers broke into the Bored Apps Discord server and Instagram page and posted a link about a mint.
At the time, Fake Mint was in for the upcoming Otherside meta, which launched later that week. Those who clicked on the link lost access to their wallet.
The Bored APUS Twitter page was quick to alert users about the hack at the time. OpenSea data showed relocation of approximately 24 bored apes and 30 mutant apes. But it is possible that they did not steal all these assets, and some owners transferred their NFTs for security reasons.
Other projects have also experienced similar situations in the recent past. A few weeks ago, Axie Infinity claimed that its Discord servers were compromised by a MEE6 bot. Although the MEE6 team denied this, several other projects also made the same claim.
