A hack of the project’s Discord channel saw several non-fungible tokens (NFTs) stolen from Bored Ape Yacht Club and associated collections.
It sounds like an April Fool’s joke but it is far from it. According to blockchain security firm PeckShield, the bored app Yacht Club Discord Channel was compromised on April 1.
The attacker managed to escape with at least one highly sought-after ape as Mutant Ape Yacht Club #8662 was stolen.

“It is not 100% confirmed to be the root cause of these hacks but to be safe and use a different verification bot just remove it from your servers. I was told that the owner of Captcha Bot (ImDarkDiamond) was compromised and the source code was stolen (this part is 100% confirmed).
Users are being advised to disable the Captcha bot immediately.
BAYC posted a notice on its own Twitter account warning users not to do anything on Discord at this time. It added that he is not doing any April Fools or Stealth Mints right now.
The attacker managed to post a malicious link on the official Discord channel to lure users into a fake mining website. It is also being reported that Doodle, Nyoki and Squiggles Discord servers have been hacked in a similar manner.
The infiltration took place a few hours ago as publications and details are currently thin on the ground.
Discord is primarily a social media platform for the gaming community. This is not the first time the platform has been used in a BAYC robbery. In November, NFT collector Calvin Becerra lost three iconic bored apes worth nearly $1 million to scammers on Discord.
The ApeCoin tokens, which back the project, are down 8.5% on the day. According to CoinGecko, the newly launched APE token is currently trading at $12.71. It is down 26% since its all-time high of $17.17 on March 18.
