Axi Infinity has announced the postponement of the launch of its highly anticipated play-to-earn game – Origin – in what appears to be the biggest hack in DeFi history.
According to the post on Substack, Axi Infinity: Origins will go live on Mavis Hub on April 7. Earlier it was to be launched on 31 March.
Axi Infinity: Genesis
After the major security breaches, Axi said the platform needs to re-prioritize its efforts and delay the launch date by a week. While the game is gearing up for a soft launch, the move will give the engineering and security team an additional time to thoroughly investigate all the implications of the breach before seeking their full attention to support Origin’s release.
While the game is gearing up for a soft launch, we have decided to give the engineering and security team some more time to investigate all implications of the security breach, before focusing on supporting Origin’s release.
The announcement also read,
“On Thursday, April 7th – Origin will be available for download via Mavis Hub! We’re incredibly excited to get Origin into the hands of our community! We’re able to share it with you today even though it doesn’t go as planned.” No, we’re hoping the videos and content we’ve prepared will help you prepare once it’s available next week.”
Ronin Exploitation and Aftermath
as reported by cryptopotatoThe exploit, which actually took place a week ago, affected Ronin validator nodes for Sky Mavis, the publisher of the popular Axi Infinity game and Axi DAO. The hacker allegedly used the hacked private keys to make fake withdrawals from Ronin Bridge during two transactions.
Over $624 million in Ethereum and USDC were withdrawn in the process. According to Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen, a large portion of the stolen funds belonged to Axie players and included Treasury revenue from Axie Infinity.
Sky Mavis has promised compensation to the victims. Ronin Network, on the other hand, has revealed to have worked with Chainalysis to trace the stolen funds, and CrowdStrike to focus on forensics. Stating that the breach was external, it said that “all evidence points to this attack being socially engineered rather than a technical flaw”.
