AI art hit the news this week for outwitting humans in a fine arts competition. This has caused a storm of conflict of ideas in the art world. And now, there’s a new development for Skirmish. A graphic novel featuring AI-generated art will be available for sale next week.
A graphic novel featuring Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated art with mesmerizing images has hit virtual newsstands. And, it took only 100 hours to prepare.
The subject of AI-generated art has blown the hell out. Anyone who loves the idea of the upcoming Metaverse is intrigued by the idea of just how many virtual worlds could be created this way. The notion that the Metaverse is even closer than we thought about using this kind of technology is tantalizing to Metaverse enthusiasts. But for now the issue is plaguing many in the art world.
AI Art and Graphic Novel
Writer Kevin Hayes is a die-hard science-lover. his favorite book is star maker by Olaf Stapledon – first published in 1937. The book describes the history of life in the universe and deals with philosophical ideas such as the meaning of life, birth and death, and the unity between civilizations. The hugely popular science-fiction author Sir Arthur C. Clark said it was “perhaps the most powerful work of fiction ever written.”
Hayes decided to pay homage to his favorite book (which is now copyright closed due to its age) and re-imagined it as a graphic novel. He used the AI-art generation platform MidJourney to create the world’s first fully illustrated novel. Not only is this the first fully illustrated novel… it’s also the first fully illustrated novel where an AI created the illustrations. And this is where highly skilled artists who have studied their craft over the years begin to get upset.
Classical Literature as a Graphic Novel
These days, there are many graphic adaptations of famous novels. However, they are not the same as the original novels – they lack the full text of the novel and rely on art to communicate the missing parts. This is where Hayes’ book differs.
In total, Hayes’ graphic novel contains 706 fully illustrated pages. Hayes says, “My aim was to bring the visual feel of a graphic novel with a sweeping, epic story into a worthy and somewhat forgotten novel. It has been conceived for modern readers in a way that has yet to come.” It just wasn’t possible. star maker My favorite novel of all time, and I’ve been trying to inspire people to read it for years.”
AI Art – Starting Out
Hayes has dealt with writing AI for work purposes, but the first AI art program he participated in was Wombo.ai. He says the speed with which he is improving these arts programs is absolutely remarkable.
“It was a really interesting tool when rudimentary. It was interesting enough to keep in my mind. So, when I saw better quality examples from projects like MidJourney and Stable Diffusion, I jumped on it and started fooling around with it. done.
Hayes says that everyone has a lot of ideas about the things they want to do, but they lack a key component. “They’d like to be in a band, but they can’t play an instrument. Or they want to write a novel, but they don’t have a lot of free time to write. There are a lot of people who want to tell stories that last for years. spinning in their heads. But they never had the ability to create art that went with art. So they are either stuck in the crowded short story market, or they have to find an artist or develop the skills themselves. To do. “
AI Art and the Real World
Many people would say that in this case AI is taking the jobs of skilled artists. However, the project would be so expensive that it would never have been commissioned before.
Says Hayes, “Using traditional art methods would be so time-consuming that you’d have a hard time justifying it for anything less than a Harry Potter or a Bible. The production cost would be outrageous. Star Maker is a one-of-a-kind book that’s a must-have.” That’s exactly what AI art can do very well at the moment. It has lush exotic scenes and simple scenes.”
Hayes says MidJourney is excellent at some things and downright terrible at still others. “It’s very difficult to generate action sequences – or human figures. You can’t create the same character over and over, etc. However, Star Maker is an unusual book in many ways. It has almost no main character – the narrator increasingly becomes a disjointed presence that watches the rise and fall of civilizations. There are no fight scenes, but plenty of philosophical thoughts and observations. The precise visual description of anything described in the book is particularly striking, except for Plus, MidJourney has its own art style. It’s perfect for the dreamy/supernatural mood of star maker,
Time
Hayes managed to produce most of the image in the first six days. The rest of the work for the next week after that was the layout, lettering, correcting errors, rechecking, etc. In all, Hayes says it was about 100 hours of work from start to finish.
“AI art at the moment isn’t that good at producing bespoke images of humans doing specific things. So the 40,000-page epic The Complete Hardy Boys Adventures It really won’t be as easy as it seems. If you only need skyscrapers or cherry blossoms or teddy bears, and you never need to see them again, that’s great. If you need seventy panels of a single character performing thirty complex actions, you’ll never get there with AI art right now.
Hayes says if star maker He becomes popular enough, he will do Stapledon’s next book, and perhaps even Dante’s Inferno, or Book of Revelation.
“It’s good to be (potentially) the first to do something specific in human history, and a fully illustrated full-length novel is far more important than a Guinness World Record for stacking the Solo Cup on your chin.”
Kevin Hayes’ version of Starmaker will be available on Google Play and Amazon on September 17th.
