Refereum, an Ethereum-based platform that rewards users in cryptocurrency for playing different games like Apex Legends or Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, just announced a partnership with the popular battle-royale title, PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds (PUBG).
Anyone who signs up for the platform must link their Twitch or Mixer live-streaming accounts. From there, they can earn “in-game achievements” which convert into the platform’s cryptocurrency: RFR token. However, with existing games on the platform, users could only obtain the asset for watching other streamers, following game-specific social media accounts, or other activities that aren’t directly in-game. But, according to the platform’s recent blog post, this PUBG partnership is about to change that.
Earning While Playing
Now, players can earn RFR for doing things like getting 20 kills or by being the most-watched streamer on the Referendum platform. These missions ensure that gamers can earn much more without doing anything extra, aside from performing well in their favorite games.
Each round of missions is called a “campaign,” which lasts for a short time. At the end of each campaign, the platform sends all rewards to a player’s Ethereum wallet. From there, they can do what they want with the currency, be it convert the asset to another cryptocurrency or into their local fiat. And, specifically with the PUBG event, players who level up the highest in each campaign can win “keys for in-game content” or even real-life PUBG branded merchandise like a water bottle or backpack.
The goal here is to introduce more people to blockchain technology. An easy way to do that is with gaming, which is one of the most accessible use cases out there. Not only is gaming fun, but players who perform well in their favorite games will understand precisely how a blockchain network can reward them automatically for their participation. The platform may then tempt gamers to check out other blockchain networks like Bitcoin or the rest of Ethereum’s decentralized applications.
