FilmCoin: First Film To Be Fully Funded By Crypto Goes Into Production

Updated by Nicole Buckler

FilmCoin is a new token that aims to let movie fans help fund the movies they want to see. They can also put themselves forward for roles in making films.

Are you bored of mainstream Hollywood movies? Bored of seeing the same Hollywood stars in every movie? Bored of Netflix’s waning creativity? Well here’s an idea.

There is a new film and television digital currency, called FilmCoin (“$FLIKS”). The team behind the ERC20 Utility Token have started on their first movie. Called Tales From The Trap, the company say it is a “gritty no-holds-barred true story set within the UK rap scene.” It is a story of wars between drug-dealing gangs.

Filmcoin Already in Use

A production studio already using the coin is called Darkhorse. They say they are the world’s first blockchain-powered digital Film and Television production studio. They have “created a fresh and engaging way to finance movies; by streamlining the process and ‘trimming the fat’ to maximize profit potential with instantaneous revenue collection and dissemination.”

The aim is to challenge the existing status quo of the global film industry.

The studio will also release NFTs related to the films and the music that appear in them. “They will have un-lockable real-world utility including the much sort after red carpet events, meet the stars and in-production VIP film set visits. All NFTs will have a tangible value and be automatically linked to the secondary marketplaces such as Opensea and Rarible.”

The FilmCoin token has celeb backers, including actor and producer Terry Stone. He said, “FilmCoin is undoubtedly the most exciting project I’ve been involved with; I’m the first film producer in history to be making a slate of films entirely funded via a form of cryptocurrency and digital assets such as NFTs. The FilmCoin Team are really excited about Tales From The Trap, and it proves you don’t need to spend millions to make a really great film!”

Get Involved

Darkhorse say that getting involved is easy. “If you’re interested in having your music played in a movie or you’re wanting to appear in a film or television production, all you need to do is submit your details on the TFTT website and upload a clip of your content, if you are chosen a TFTT service representative will contact you directly.”
