New Netflix documentary covers independent investigators looking into QuadrigaCX scandal.

Netflix has announced ‘Trust No One: The Hunt For The Crypto King’, a new documentary that is scheduled for release in 2022, via a recent tweet.

This true-crime documentary follows the story of a group of “investigators turned sleuths” who are looking into QuadrigaCX, the “suspicious death of cryptocurrency millionaire Gerry Cotten and the missing $250 million they believe he stole from them”.

Who is Gerry Cotten? QuadrigaCX and Alleged Scam

Gerald (AKA Gerry) William Cotten was the founder of Quadriga Fintech Solutions and its subsidiary QuadrigaCX which was at one point considered to be the largest cryptocurrency exchange in Canada. QuadrigaCX infamously went bankrupt in 2019, at which point it owed 215.7 million Canadian Dollars and only held 28 million Canadian Dollars value in assets.

With up to $250 million owed to customers by QuadrigaCX and its founder/leader Gerry Cotten by the time of its bankruptcy, many have been looking independently for answers as to where their money is potentially being held.

This has naturally led to a suspicion of fraudulent activity. Specifically the embezzlement of funds by Cotten, who was the sole proprietor of a number of ‘cold wallets’ which contained a large proportion of the missing funds.

The difficulty is that Gerry Cotten, who is believed to have been the sole proprietor of the ‘cold wallets’ in which these funds are stored, died one year before the company’s bankruptcy filing.

After official investigations were ceased, there are still a number of those who have a staked financial interest in the case claim that the death of Gerry Cotten was faked. Such as the subjects of this forthcoming documentary. Gerry Cotten is reported to have died of Chrohn’s disease in India whilst doing charity work.

Additional areas of intrigue include the involvement of a shady individual called Omar Dhanani who had previously been convicted in the U.S. and served 18 months in federal prison, under identity theft charges.

Although an exact release date is yet to be confirmed, ‘Trust No One: The Hunt For The Crypto King’ is currently scheduled for release next year on Netflix.
