Community College Dropout Turned Crypto YouTuber Now Making Millions

Brian Jung, a 25-year-old college dropout, made $3.7 million last year after becoming a full-time crypto YouTuber. 

According to a profile by CNBC’s “Make It” series, Brain Jung decided to drop out of college in 2018 at the age of 21 to become an entrepreneur. Jung’s parents, who immigrated to America from South Korea, South Korean immigrant, were naturally shocked by this decision.

However, the millennial was determined to make his plan work, transforming a $200 a day in e-commerce side hustles into YouTube millions. 

Jung said of his decision:

I had to tell my parents, ‘I know you’ve worked really hard and I know how scary this is going to be, but I’m not going to finish school. 

Jung was able to grow his YouTube channel, a hobby at the time, into a personal-finance focused platform. He made $3.7 million from the channel last year, and his YouTube channel currently has over 1.17 million subscribers.

Jung told CNBC that his decision to drop out of college was a “pivotal moment,” and one that allowed him to focus all of his time and energy on growing his business. 

In a breakdown of his expenses, Jung revealed that the majority of his YouTube earnings are used to pay for “operating costs and taxes for the business”. He puts approximately $50,000 each month into various investment categories, such as stocks and crypto. Jung called his cryptoassets “long-term investments,” and told CNBC that he does not plan on changing his strategy despite the recent crypto market downturn.
